Privacy Policy

I’ll Be Clear About Things:

Your privacy is so important online. I can’t emphasize enough how much you should be aware of your rights online

I use Google Analytics Demographics Analysis – which means that this site is using cookies. Demographics analysis let me see things like age and gender for my users. None of this information is personally identifiable. I can’t see anything about you, specifically, just that, say, 67% of people on my site are women. Analyzing demographics helps me write better stuff for my readers. Don’t want to be tracked? This resource will make it so.

I only get your email address if you give it to me. So if you sign up for the LBTL newsletter anywhere – whether it’s a sidebar box, a box in a post (probably offering you something from the resource library), or the popup that comes out when you go to leave the site – I’ll have your contact info and keep in touch. You can unsubscribe from the LBTL newsletter at any time. Also – I don’t share your email address with 3rd parties. You guys trust me enough to share your contact info, and I won’t betray that trust. If you’re getting spam, it came from somewhere else, and if you think it’s somehow associated with LBTL, please contact me at megan@livingbetweenthelines.com right away, I’ll figure out what’s gone wrong.

I sometimes write sponsored posts. Sponsored posts are pretty common in the blogging world, and involve a brand compensating a blogger to include their product/service in content. I will always disclose any sponsorship, and I refuse to write anything I don’t personally believe. I’ve turned down sponsorships I’m not comfortable promoting in the past, and I’ll continue to do so.

I sometimes use affiliate links. Affiliate links mean that if you make a purchase of a product or service that I’ve referred you to, I’ll get a cut of the profit. This doesn’t cost you anything extra, or affect your purchase in any way. Think of it like earning commission off of sales, like a realtor does. I will always disclose when a post features affiliate links.

What I Can See

  • How many times a page has been viewed
  • What pages any user is likely to visit from there
  • Proportional demographics – what percentage of readers fall into certain age/gender/location categories
  • What products have been purchased through affiliate links
  • Your name and email address if and only if you subscribe to our mailing list. Even then, I cannot connect your name or email address to any other informationa bout you or activity you take on the site (except a comment you use your name for).

What I Can’t See

  • You. I won’t know your name, email address, real address, age, gender, location, credit card number, shoe size, favorite color, or literally anything else about you unless you comment or email to tell me. If you sign up for our mailing list, I will see that your name and email address exist, but I can’t connect it to any other information about you.
  • Any past sites visited or purchases made by you
  • Who clicks affiliate links
  • What any particular person buys from an affiliate link
  • Pretty much anything else, honestly.

If I do anything else I feel you should be notified of, I’ll add a plain English explanation to this list. If you’re a law student, lawyer, or masochist, feel free to read the full legalese version of the privacy policy below.
